"Nick Sousanis"

Nick Sousanis is the Co-founder, publisher and editor-in-chief Thedetroiter.com. A love of both math and art would seem to defy the stereotypes of left- and right-brained people.  Sprinkle in jobs teaching public speaking at Wayne State University and tennis atPeachtree Tennis & Health Club in Clinton Township, and you have a snapshot of Nick Sousanis, who runs Thedetroiter.com, a Web site devoted to the arts.  "I'm fairly analytical about my art, and fairly philosophical about mathematics," Sousanis joked. "They're both about trying to make sense of what you're all about, what the world's all about."  Some of what Sousanis' world is all about is his Web site, founded four years ago for his brother John's theater columns from local newspapers.  "The genesis, before we even launched, was to have a repository for all his past columns, because they weren't on the Web. That's how it started before we had a name for anything," Sousanis said, From there, it was a natural progression to a site about metro Detroit's arts scene.  "We saw a need for a lot of literate writing about art in Detroit," Sousanis said. "I was just stunned at how much was going on and how little I could read about it anywhere. There's so much happening, it's sad and stunning how little gets mentioned in the dailies."
