"Gina Dominique"

Gima Dominique is an Artist and Art History Professor at Delta College.  She makes art that synthesizes her ideas and artistic influences. In her just completed diptych, “Aphrodite’s Work" and "Venus’ Labor,” she demonstrate her love of abstraction, her ideas of beauty, and her devotion to the practice of painting.  Most influenced by reading and teaching modern and contemporary art, she also readily acknowledge the very strong influence the classical periods have on her. In the diptych’s title she gestures to the Greek and Roman goddesses of love, creativity and beauty. The ancient Greeks feminized and anthropomorphized these divine attributes as the goddess Aphrodite. The Romans ascribed the same characteristics to their goddess Venus.
